We know meeting someone for the first time can be intimidating and going to a new church for the first time can be nerve-racking. We want to help make your first experience at SJC ILM a great one!

Am i expected to make a monetary donation during worship services?

What is Holy eucharist?
Known as Holy Communion, or the Lord's Supper, Holy Eucharist is the sacrament commanded by Jesus for the continual remembrance of and participation in his life, death, and resurrection. Holy Eucharist is celebrated at both Sunday morning worship services every week. All followers of Jesus, including children, are invited forward and receive communion. We offer wafers and wine. You may choose to partake in either or both. Gluten free wafers are available – just ask the person giving out the wafers. If you prefer to receive a blessing instead, at the altar rail, please cross your arms over your chest. If you are not a follower of Jesus, or not sure if you are, you are invited forward for a blessing.
How do i take holy communion?
At the prompting of an usher, follow the people in the pew in front of you and walk up the center aisle to the altar rail, at which you either kneel or stand (both are acceptable). Hold out your hands, and someone will place a wafer in your hand. You may eat the wafer. Someone else follows with a tray of wine in tiny cups. Take a cup, drink the wine, and dispose of the cup in the waste basket at either corner of the altar rail.
What are the learning opportunities for adults at sjc Ilm?
We encourage all adults to participate in Alpha. Alpha (offered twice a year) is a casual exploration of the Christian faith. We enjoy a meal together, watch a short talk on video, then talk about it with respect and acceptance for all opinions and perspectives. Alpha is an excellent opportunity to get to know others, explore faith, and ask questions with no pressure and no strings attached. Foundations is our membership class. It’s a three-week series offered twice a year. In this class you will learn more about what we believe and why. Groups at SJC ILM are a great way to grow your faith, connect with a community, and explore the Bible in practical, thought-provoking studies and series. Additionally, bible studies and book studies are periodically held during the year at SJC ILM.
